The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore has publicly disassociated himself and his business partners from Singaporean national Toh You Kang, who is currently the subject of a court-ordered travel restriction and criminal proceedings in Ghana.
Ashie-Moore said Toh was originally introduced by Chinese partners, Foshan Yuejian Cable and Wire, to serve as a liaison in English-language business transactions. However, the Chinese company has since issued a disclaimer, severing ties with Toh, a step the politician said he “fully supports.”
“In alignment with that decision and in the interest of clarity and public awareness, I also formally disclaim any association with Toh You Kang regarding any business dealings or transactions, effective immediately,” he stated as published on Facebook.
He further warned the public and business community to avoid any transactions involving Mr Toh, stressing that any such engagements would be “at their own risk.”
Travel ban
The disclaimer follows a directive issued by a High Court in Accra on 3 July 2025, placing Toh on the Ghana Immigration Service’s Stop List.
Signed by Deputy Registrar Gordon A. Owusu, the court order prevents Mr Toh from leaving or entering the country through any official port.
The directive, related to a criminal case before Criminal Court 5, is part of proceedings under suit number CR/0530/2025.
The legal order suggests Toh is a key subject in an active criminal investigation.
Legal tensions
The case has attracted significant public interest after reports emerged that Toh had filed a complaint against Ashie Moore, alleging fraud, extortion, and human rights violations. Ashie Moore has denied the allegations, describing them as a “calculated attempt to smear his reputation.”
His legal counsel, Gideon Tettey Tetteh, responded with a counterclaim, alleging that Toh had instead defrauded Ashie Moore and his partners of nearly $6 million in a failed international business transaction.
The legal team maintains that Toh is currently in police custody and under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
“Contrary to claims, it is Kang who defrauded Hon. Ashie Moore. The allegations of physical assault or passport seizure are entirely false and defamatory,” the lawyer said.
