Ashanti Region: Police kill two robbers, arrest one

The robbers had launched an attack on a gold dealer and his security guard, but the police arrived on the scene at the dealer’s house in time to save the situation

The anti-robbery task force of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has shot dead two suspected armed robbers in an intelligence-led operation in Manso Dawusaso.

The suspects were among an armed gang who engaged the police in a shootout in the town in the Amansie South District.

However, the police did manage to arrest one of the robbers. The rest are on the run, an official statement said.

“The Anti-Robbery Task Force of the Ashanti Regional Police Command in an intelligence-led operation shot two armed robbers who later died at the hospital,” said the chief police spokesperson, ACP Kwesi Ofori, acting director of public affairs with the Ghana Police Service, in a statement.

“Another suspect, linked to the crime, Abraham Kwasi Tetteh, has been arrested whilst four others are being pursued.”

He said the suspected armed robbers forced their way into the house of a gold dealer and disarmed his private security guard while firing shots into the residence.

“At this stage, a police combat team, that had mounted 24-hour surveillance on the gang, returned fire to protect the innocent lives in and around the property.

“Four of the suspects managed to escape but the two who sustained gunshot wounds were arrested and sent to the hospital, but were pronounced dead on arrival.”
