Ashanti Region: Kokoben ‘sub-chief’ shot dead by unidentified gunmen
The victim, believed to be in his late forties, was ambushed and fatally shot by unidentified assailants outside his residence at approximately 9:00 PM on Wednesday (15 January).
Crime scene investigators have been deployed to probe the gruesome murder of Nana Okufrobour, also known as Nana Abudu, a sub-chief in Kokoben near Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
The victim, believed to be in his late forties, was ambushed and fatally shot by unidentified assailants outside his residence at approximately 9:00 PM on Wednesday (15 January).
He was found lying half-prone in a pool of blood when the police arrived at the scene. He was found unresponsive with some other valuables lying beside him. Medics confirmed him dead at the scene.
Preliminary reports suggest the incident may be linked to an ongoing dispute among sub-chiefs in the area. While investigations continue, the body of the deceased has been sent to the mortuary.
Assemblyman for the area Yahaya Saeed confirmed the incident to Asaase News says the community is still in shock.
“We are still working to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. There has been widespread speculation suggesting it may be linked to land-related issues, but the police have taken over the case to investigate further.
“Until his untimely death, he was a respected sub-chief in the community. It is truly a sad and shocking situation. As of now, the police have been to the scene and have taken the body away for further examination.”, Saeed disclosed.
