Ashanti Region: Fire destroys Nyinahin SHS boys’ dormitory

The police are investigating the cause of the Friday night fire and say they are not ruling out foul play

The boys’ dormitory of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School (SHS) was razed to the ground by fire on Friday (8 October), school officials have confirmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the police in Nyinahin, the capital of Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region, told the media on Saturday. They said they are not ruling out arson.

“We got information around 7.40pm [Friday] that there was a fire incident in the school,” a police source said. “So we quickly mobilised our men and called the firefighters from Nkawie who came to douse the blaze.

“So far we are investigating the case.“

Meanwhile, a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service said at least six rooms were affected, including premises housing property belonging to the students.

The incident comes hours after the students completed the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
