A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) regional chairman aspirant, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, has raised alarm over what he describes as a sharp decline in security in the Ashanti Region under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
Speaking in a live interview on Angel FM in Kumasi, the politician — popularly known as COKA — said the region, once known for its political stability and peace, is now experiencing an unsettling rise in violent crime.
“The Ashanti Region is no longer safe under the NDC government since voted into power,” he declared.
“What we are experiencing now is fear, lawlessness, and a breakdown in security enforcement. People are being attacked, businesses are suffering, and the silence from the authorities is deafening.”
COKA cited incidents of insecurity in areas such as Asawase and Denase in the Afigya Kwabre North District, pointing to what he said were reports from residents and community leaders about frequent violent clashes and robberies.
However, he did not provide official crime data to support the claims.
He further stressed the need for a non-partisan approach to national security:
“Security should not be politicized. The people of the Ashanti Region deserve to live and work in peace. We cannot allow this rising fear to continue.”
COKA urged the regional police command and the Ministry of the Interior to intensify patrols, enforce laws fairly, and collaborate with local leaders to tackle the issue from the ground up.
