Easy rider: winner of top prize in the Asaase Sound Clash claims his booty

Patrick Mensah Nartey grabs a plush Mahindra KUV 100 after coming top in the Asaase Sound Clash phone-in competition

Patrick Mensah Nartey, a Shatta Movement fan, has taken possession of a brand new Mahindra KUV 100 after emerging the winner of the maiden edition of the Asaase Sound Clash predict-and-win competition.

Patrick, who doubles as the chief executive officer of the PMN companies group, told Asaase Radio that he is delighted to be the proud winner of the ultimate prize, donated by Svani Group Ltd (formerly known as UTC Motors), in the #AsaaseSoundClash predict-and-win competition.

“I feel very excited, I am happy and full of joy,” he told reporters at the presentation ceremony at the Asaase Radio headquarters in Cantonments, Accra on Thursday (17 September).

“You can see I’m happy that it is not only Shatta Movement that is happy. I can see both camps – Bhim Nation, Shatta Movement and the whole industry. They are all happy, seeing the transparency, the honesty in the whole thing.

“So it’s not just that Asaase Radio was playing mind games or were there for the money.

“Everybody can see they have put in a lot to make this happen,” Nartey said.

Winner has confidence

Fans of the two most celebrated dancehall musicians in Ghana were required to vote *800*995*1# for Shatta Wale or *800*995*2# for Stonebwoy. With that, they got the chance to win the sleek new Mahindra.

Nartey explained that his confidence in the organisation of the raffle by Asaase Radio was what motivated him to take part in the raffle draw.

“You [Asaase Radio] came recently, but honestly I can tell that you are one of the leading stations, not only in Ghana, but in Africa right now. So I hope you will continue to be honest in your dealings.”

NLA approves

The head of public relations for the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Razak Kojo Opoku, said due diligence was followed in the entire process to guard the integrity of the competition.

“We are very happy and delighted to be part of this programme. As a matter of fact, we did due diligence on the result that was generated.

“We validated it. We authenticated to affirm that the one who was winning is the right winner.

“There is no gimmick, there are no shenanigans.”

Sponsor satisfaction

Ashok Bose, a representative from Svani Group Ltd, sponsor of the Mahindra KUV 100, expressed gratitude to Asaase Radio for organising the competition.

“I am very happy to be here and I want to congratulate the winner,” said Bose. “Me and my chairman, who has donated this vehicle, are delighted to be part of this event.”

The début Asaase Sound Clash was launched on 4 August and included a range of activities, including donations of personal protective equipment to two hospitals in Accra.

The competition, dubbed the Clash2CrushCOVID, climaxed at the Mövenpick Hotel last weekend (Saturday 12 September). The highly anticipated event brought Ghana’s two leading dancehall artists – Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy – together on one stage to display their lyrical prowess as they vied with each other to show fans who had the most hit songs.

The night of entertainment also reminded young people about the COVID-19 safety protocols and how they can protect themselves against the novel coronavirus.
