Irene Logan shares “scary” experience with COVID-19

Afro-pop singer, Irene Logan, sits with host of Between Hours, Naa Ashorkor, to share what she termed "scary and tough" COVID-19 experience

Ghanaian-based Liberian-born afro-pop singer, Irene Logan, from her days with award-winning singer Efya as part of the singing duo ‘Irene and Jane’, has entertained Ghanaians and fans across the world with songs like “Heated up” and “Baby.”

When she went solo in 2009, Irene released singles like “Run-away” and “Na me dey there” but much hasn’t been heard from the beautiful singer over the last few years.

Speaking on Asaase Radio’s Between Hours with Naa Ashorkor, the ‘Medowo’ hit-maker explained the reason for her hiatus in music, and also shared her experience with the nightmarish novel virus, COVID-19.

“Taking my own time”

According to the powerful vocalist and songwriter, while people kept saying, “we haven’t heard from you in so long” she was taking her “own time, just going through my journey and blossoming into the woman that God wants me to be.”

Irene is out now with a new single; a Christmas Carol, which she said “was inspired by a very close friend” who said to her, “why don’t you do a song for Christmas?”. She revealed that although she was worried at first because she hadn’t “done this in a while”, she was encouraged by this “special person” who even came up with “Have yourself a merry Christmas,” – the lead to the song – to go for it and the feedback has “humbled” her.

The singer further added that she is back to doing music now “because now is the time… that’s why the music came when it came and I would say that it is going to open the door for more beautiful things from my soul.”

An experience with COVID

Irene and her family were not spared from the onslaught of the deadly Coronavirus. According to her, she and her parents all tested positive for COVID-19 at the time when the world knew close to nothing about it and “it (the experience) was really intense.”

She said she self-isolated for a month and the family took turns in cooking and taking care of each other till the virus run its course.
