
Asaase 98.5 Kumasi, a subsidiary of the Asaase Broadcasting Company Limited emerged as winners of the maiden edition of the “Think you got game” gaming competition.
YFm’s PapJay, known in real life as James Mensah also emerged as the top goal scorer for the competition.
The FIFA gaming competition, the first of its kind, saw six media stations battle for the championship title and bragging rights as the best football gaming squad in Kumasi.
The media stations – ABN Radio One, Silver FM, Pure FM, YFM, Orange FM and Asaase 98.5 Kumasi – battled for the top diadem over a period of five weeks.
Asaase 98.5 Kumasi won the championship title with 25 points, with Silver FM prevailing over ABN Radio One with 19 points, and the latter managing 16 points. YFM garnered 15 points, with Focus One Media’s Orange FM coming fifth with 9 points as Pure FM trailed with 4 points.
The winners in all categories received resounding prices from the event’s sponsors, Itel Ghana, and refreshed by Coca-Cola Schweppes.
The grand finale of the maiden event saw hundreds of football lovers trooping to the Golden Eagle Cinema in the Kumasi City Mall, on Friday (24 July 2022) in support of their favourite media station.
Programmes and events manager at Asaase 98.5 Kumasi, Naa Klordey Fritzal Abban said the Asaase brand has come to stay and will be using such programmes and events to connect people from all walks of life.
“The station has Kumasi at heart, and we have come to stay,” Abban said. “We are one people, so such events are expected to be held to strengthen the bond. And you know, it is also a way for people to make new friends and connect to the corporate world, and so our doors are opened for partnership going forward.”
The event, she explained, will subsequently target corporate Kumasi, students across the tertiary institutions in Ashanti Region and various communities.
