Asaase Foundation donates dialysis machine to Tarkwa Municipal Hospital

The Asaase Foundation – set up to drive Asaase Radio’s corporate social responsibility initiatives – has been raising funds to support people suffering from kidney disease

The Asaase Foundation – established to drive corporate social responsibility initiatives for Asaase – has donated another kidney dialysis machine to the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital in the Western Region.

This brings to three the number of dialysis machines donated to hospitals under the Asaase Cares initiative to help the less privileged in society.

In a symbolic handing-over gesture, the administrator of the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital, Mukabre Amasa Abass, said the donation of the machine is timely, as the hospital continues to experience increases in the numbers of cases from other areas, especially the Western North Region.

Abass welcomed how patients will no longer need to travel to the Central Region and the capital, Accra, to obtain dialysis treatment.

“This hospital is more or less strategically located, because we are in the middle of two major regions – Western and Western North.

“Moreover, this is the only facility that we have within this enclave. We have almost all kinds of specialists in this hospital, too,” he said.

The municipal hospital, however, is calling for more support.

“We also want politicians to support this hospital because this is a government institution,” Abass said.

The head of events at Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd, Mel Kwesi Davis, said the foundation will soon take delivery of another 12 dialysis machines to expand the reach of dialysis services to more hospitals across the country.

“We came to Tarkwa because Tarkwa is the only referral hospital between Western and Western North,” Davis said.

“The machine we’ve brought here means that instead of people travelling all the way to Effia Nkwanta, which is in Sekondi, to go and do dialysis, they can simply come to Tarkwa, which is closer.”

The foundation has donated dialysis machines to Wa Regional Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital and now the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital.

The donation of dialysis machines was made possible by a number of benevolent organisations and institutions.
