Article: Dr Francis Ohemeng, the outstanding Central Regional administrator of NAS

Living with a teacher didn't only whip up his interest in education, it fueled in him a dream to be independent and resourceful to his family

Yesterday, 13 April 2025, International Kingdom University (Florida) honored outstanding individuals for their inspiring lives, exemplary leadership, and enormous contributions to their societies and communities.

The well-attended event hosted at the Executive Community Church, Kasoa Opeikuma Junction, began at 3 pm and saw the amassing of leading decision-makers, dignitaries, and sympathizers from all walks of life.

Among the honorees was Mr. Francis Ohemeng, who received an Honorary Doctorate in Executive Leadership.

Francis Ohemeng’s evolution into a transformational and servant leader with the enviable status of the Central Regional administrator of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) was not a walk in the park. It has taken grit, a thick skin, and sticky faith in God to get this far.

Born in Agona Asamang in the Ashanti region to an accountant father, Mr Hanson Osei Nyantakyi, and a seamstress mother, Madam Patience Boitey, he saw poverty in the face, especially when his father lost his job.His mother’s job was not sustainable at that time, exposing the family to untold hardship.

Thankfully, the values embedded in an original extended family system for instance the communal interest in the raising of children, informed the decision of his aunt , Miss Mercy Yeboah to have him relocate to Ashanti Mampong for better prospects.

Integrating in the new community was not smooth as he often felt mistreated because his aunt who was a teacher by profession has a reputation of being a disciplinarian.

A fusion of this, her faith as a Presbyterian, Francis’s earlier exposure to a traditional setting and fellowship with the Seventh Day Adventist Church moulded him into the man he is respected for today.

As expected, living with a teacher didn’t only whip up his interest in education, it fueled in him a dream to be independent and resourceful to his family.

He passed his Common Entrance and gained admission to St Andrews Experimental Junior Secondary School , in Ashanti Mampong, after completion proceeded to Amaniampong Senior Secondary Ashanti Mampong,School giving it his best shot.He was transfered afterward to Kumasi High Secondary School to finalise his senior secondary school education.

Soon he was out of school with impressive grades but he quickly needed to become his own man. With effort he got a job with a private cocoa produce buying company. This didn’t give him financial stability but he got the chance to support himself and family members.

As a dreamer,a respectful and humble young man,he was considered for an opportunity to be recruited into the Ghana National Fire Service. He stayed consistent, standing out among his peers.

Through one of the superiors he served diligently,he was again presented the opportunity to join the National Ambulance Service which was at its formative stage and required a limited number of the best Fire Service staff to be recruited.

His good reputation followed him at National Ambulance Service placing him as a plausible choice for leadership on various levels at work, church and community.

As one of the earliest trained EMT’s in Ghana and West Africa,Mr.Francis Ohemeng historically started and managed the Ashanti Mampong Ambulance Station, second in command of Ashanti Mamponteng Ambulance Station, Ashanti Bekwei Ambulance Station and finally worked at Ashanti regional Dispatch Center.

As a regional administrator, his accessibility, humility and all hands on deck approach has brought good repute and landmark achievements to the Central Region when it comes to the Ambulance Service and it’s mandate.

Upon his assumption of office, there were only 2 ambulances that were in commission, irrespective of the huge demand for the services of the institution in the region. With determination he changed the narrative in an unprecedented record time and as of now, there are 26 ambulances serving the good people of Ghana in the Central Region.

He also pulled his weight immensely to have a regional dispatch centre established.

He has inspired and mentored many to have a sense of purpose and direction. He has enabled and fueled the dreams of many.He has empowered many economically, academically and socially, leaving for himself an enormous social capital.

Francis embodies the principle of selfless giving, unconsciously living out Matthew 10:8: “Freely you have received, freely give” ,living a life that other belief systems call Dana or generosity.

This man is not only a guiding light,he is a pillar in both his profession and his community. From reliable sources he will soon be enstooled as a Sub Chief of his hometown Agona Asamang in Ashanti Region, a position that is well earned.

The married man with children(a boy and girl) lives with no regrets and only wishes for more time to experience and live a more fulfilled life.

Academically, Francis Ohemeng holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from KNUST, a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accounting from Valley View University, and an HND in Accountancy from Sunyani Technical University. He is presently at the final level at the Institute of Chartered Accountants,Ghana (ICAG).

He attributes his success to God reflecting on how lose he was at a point in life but with determination and grace he has come very far.

Receiving an honorary doctorate is well deserved and inspiring for a man that will do anything to see others get better in life.
