The burial service for the Ghana international footballer Christian Atsu is under way at the forecourt of State House in Accra.
The 31-year-old athlete, who played for both Chelsea and Newcastle during his time with the English Premier League, was caught up in the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey which first hit the country on 6 February 2023.
His body was found under the rubble of his house in Turkey 12 days later, on Saturday 18 February.
Atsu previously played for Cheetah FC, Rio Ave, FC Porto, AFC Bournemouth, Everton FC and Malaga CF.
He made 65 appearances for Ghana and played in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, where he was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament.
He was also a member of Ghana’s squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
