Annoh-Dompreh: Ghana Gas to construct 290km gas pipeline

The MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri said the project will pass through four regions namely Eastern, Greater Accra,  Western and Central regions

Ghana Gas is set to construct a 290-kilometre gas pipeline in the country, the Deputy majority chief whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has said.

The MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri said the project will pass through four regions namely Eastern, Greater Accra,  Western and Central regions.

“Eight distribution stations will be built, and one will be stationed in Nsawam (a mini-plant),” the MP tweeted.

“These are the names of the towns that the gas pipeline will pass through in Nsawam: Damming, Nsawam, Nsumia, Fotobi, Amafrom, Sakyikrom, Anof, Owuraku, Afumkrom, Ahodzo, Doboro.

“It is imperative to note that Ghana Gas will recruit people to work in every area the gas pipeline will pass through. There is an ongoing ESI (Engineering and scientific investigation),” he added.

Meanwhile, Genser Energy has announced that it has successfully achieved financial close for an eight-year US$425 million funding package. The funds, which comprise a syndicated senior loan facility of US$325 million and a US$100 million mezzanine loan facility, will be used to refinance existing debt and finance the next phase of expansion projects including:

– a 100km natural gas pipeline to Ghana’s second-largest city, Kumasi
– a 200mmscfd gas conditioning plant at Prestea, Ghana
– and a Natural Gas Liquid (‘NGL’) storage terminal at Takoradi Port as a major step in Genser’s decarbonization strategy to achieve net zero carbon by 2035.

“The construction of the natural gas pipeline to Kumasi and the gas processing plant in Prestea will have significant economic and environmental benefits not only for Genser but also for Ghana and the West African sub-region,” Genser Energy said in a statement.

“The transaction will support Genser’s diversification from power to the gas midstream sector and mark a significant milestone in its decarbonization strategy to achieve net zero carbon by 2035 whilst contributing significantly to Ghana’s national climate change targets on emission reduction.”
