Amaarae makes history as first Ghanaian solo performer at Coachella 2025
Amaarae did not only showcase her signature genre-blending sound but used her stage to spotlight Ghanaian culture and music

Amaarae has cemented her name in Ghana’s music history as the first Ghanaian artist to perform a solo set at the prestigious Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
The Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter delivered her captivating performance on Sunday (13 April 2025), on the Gobi Stage during the first weekend of the globally acclaimed festival, held in California, USA.
Amaarae, born Ama Serwah Genfi, did not only showcase her signature genre-blending sound but used her stage to spotlight Ghanaian culture and music. Her set included songs from Ghanaian artists such as Eazzy, Joey B, La Même Gang and the Asakaa Boys, much to the delight of the crowd.
“A lot of the music you just heard is from my home country, Ghana. I love my country so much,” she stated proudly to a cheering audience.
One of the most talked-about moments of her set came when Amaarae dramatically cut off her signature long hair on stage—symbolising personal transformation and ushering in a new creative era. She also took the opportunity to announce her upcoming album, Black Star, scheduled for release in summer 2025.
Her performance marks a significant milestone for Ghana’s creative industry, as it reflects the growing influence of Ghanaian artists on global stages.
Amaarae’s appearance at Coachella not only celebrated her individual artistry but served as a tribute to Ghanaian music, culture and identity.
