Suspect arrested in shooting death of Cape Coast headteacher

The police say a suspect has been picked up following the shooting incident in Cape Coast over the weekend leading to the death of a headteacher

A suspect is in police grips following the shooting death of Yaw Ayifah Gorman, a headteacher in Cape Coast.

Confirming the development to the media, the Central Regional police spokesperson, DSP Irene Oppong, said the suspect is a male teacher and is assisting with investigations.

She did not give further details about the suspect.

Gunmen shot dead the 40-year-old headteacher at his home after returning from a population census training onboard his BMW car.

Gorman, popularly known as Dr Sting, was shot through the driver’s side door by his unknown attackers on Saturday (22 May), the police said.

A police deputy spokesperson at the Central Regional Police Command, Sergeant Evans Isaac Ettie, said investigations have begun to establish the cause of the incident.

“Efforts are being made to arrest the suspect(s), investigations are ongoing,” Ettie told the media.

Ayifah was the headteacher of the Ansapatu Basic School near Effutu. He was also a former radio presenter with Yes FM in Cape Coast.

The body has been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
