Otumfuo@25: Kumasi gears up for grand celebration, Golden Stool to be displayed, major roadblocks announced

President Akufo-Addo is expected to lead a high-powered delegation to the Manhyia Palace with the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Keith Rowley being the special guest of honour.

Preparations are in full swing in Kumasi as the city gears up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s reign at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday (12 May).

The event also coincides with Adae Kese, a major festival observed by the Asante Kingdom.

As part of the festivities, the iconic Golden Stool, a symbol of the kingdom’s unity and sovereignty, will be prominently displayed for public viewing.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to lead a high-powered delegation to the Manhyia Palace with the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Keith Rowley being the special guest of honour.

Other dignitaries, traditional and political figures from far and near, will be paying homage to the Asante monarch and wish him well.

Authorities have thus announced major roadblocks and traffic diversions to ensure smooth proceedings and security during the celebrations.

These measures aim to manage the expected influx of visitors and maintain order throughout the festivities.

“This is to give dignitaries attending the Adae Kese easy passage to the Palace,”  the Manhyia Palace said in a statement on Saturday.

The Palace also noted that tricycles commonly referred to as ‘Pragya’ and aboboyaa are banned from the Manhyia Palace vicinity on Sunday.

The anniversary celebration holds significant cultural and historical importance, marking a quarter-century of leadership under Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
