The Office of the Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has issued a stern rebuttal to what it describes as an “utterly false” and “total fabrication” published by the Herald Newspaper and subsequently circulated by other media outlets.
In a rejoinder dated Tuesday, 16 December 2025, the office categorically denied claims that the former president is considering approaching President John Dramani Mahama to seek assurances of safe passage for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
“The Office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false. It is a total fabrication by the supposed source,” the statement read. “The Office further states that Nana Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any such request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama, his agent(s) or assign(s).”
The publication, which alleged Akufo-Addo was “troubled” and seeking an audience with his successor, was dismissed in its entirety. The former president’s office reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to democratic principles.
“As a firm believer in democratic tenets, Nana Akufo-Addo’s fidelity to the Rule of Law has never been in question,” the statement asserted.
While acknowledging the former president’s personal concern for Ofori-Atta—citing both familial ties and their official collaboration during Akufo-Addo’s two terms—the office made a clear distinction between personal interest and legal process.
“It is true that the fate of Mr. Ofori Atta is of considerable concern to the Former President… But that concern does not extend to wanting to interfere with the rule of law. Hopefully this sets the records straight on this matter,” the statement clarified.
The office has demanded that the media outlets which carried the original story reproduce the full rejoinder, in accordance with the former president’s rights.
