Gender Minister files nomination forms to re-contest Walewale seat

She first entered Parliament in 2021 after defeating Abubakari Abdallah, former Northern Regional Minister during the Mahama administration

Hajia Lariba Abudu Zuwera, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection and member of Parliament (MP) for the Walewale constituency has filed her nomination forms to contest the Walewale seat again on the ticket of the NPP on Saturday, 27 January 2024.

Hajia Lariba herself was not at the party office personally but some party faithful in the constituency picked the nomination forms on her behalf on Friday (22 December 2023) at the NPP party office in Walewale.

She first entered Parliament in 2021 after defeating the former Northern Regional Minister under the John Dramani Mahama administration, Abubakari Abdallah in the 2020 national elections and she is seeking a re-election bid in the 2024 general elections.

Three other aspirants have also expressed interest in becoming parliamentary candidates in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections and they have filed their nomination forms to contest the Walewale constituency seat.

The Walewale constituency seat is one of the hotcake seats in Ghana which needs a strong candidate for the 2024 elections to challenge the three times consecutive defeated NDC parliamentary candidate.

However, the immediate past former chairman of the NPP for the Walewale constituency, Jacob Pantaki Jabuni after handing over the nomination forms to the sympathizers of the gender minister admonished the party delegates to vote for a candidate who could win the seat for the NPP in the 2024 presidential and primary elections and not just someone who will win the parliamentary primaries.

The other three aspirants who also filed their nomination forms to contest in the primaries are; Alhaji Dr. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru works at the office of the Vice President in Accra as a technical advisor.

The two other contestants are Tahiru Shaman, a businessman, and Mahama Jangdow, a Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) officer at the Tamale office.
