Photos: President Mahama and former president Akufo-Addo share warm moments in Kwahu

A symbolic meeting of Ghana’s past and present leaders during the Easter celebrations in the Eastern Region

Kwahu, Eastern Region – April 20, 2025: In a display of statesmanship and continuity, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and current President John Dramani Mahama met in Kwahu on Sunday, April 20, 2025, as part of this year’s Easter festivities.

The meeting, held in a serene setting that reflected the spirit of the season, captured the attention of many Ghanaians online after photos of the warm encounter were shared by the former president.

“For nearly two decades, I have consecutively visited Kwahu to mark the sacred period of Easter,” Akufo-Addo stated in a post on Facebook. He added that this year’s visit was particularly special as it provided the opportunity to meet with President Mahama on the lush landscape of Kwahu.

Images from the visit showed the two leaders in friendly conversation, exchanging smiles, and engaging with others present at the venue. The moment has been widely interpreted as a strong gesture of national unity and mutual respect, especially in a political climate often defined by deep divisions.

The annual Kwahu Easter celebration is known for attracting thousands of revellers from across the country and the diaspora, but this year’s event carried extra symbolic weight thanks to the high-level presidential meeting.

As Ghana continues to navigate the challenges of development and national cohesion, moments like these serve as a powerful reminder that politics, at its best, can unite rather than divide.
