Sebastian Spio-Garbrah: Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024) will offer insights

The APD 2024 forum is slated from 25 to 27 January at the Presidential Lodge at Peduase, in the Aburi Hills of the Eastern Region

Sebastian Spio-Garbrah, a board member of the Africa Prosperity Network (APN), has said that the 2024 edition of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) will be results-oriented and will offer great insights into the way forward for Africa.

The forum is slated from 25 to 27 January 2024 at the Peduase Presidential Lodge in the Aburi Hills of the Eastern Region. The three-day event will be hosted by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (23 January) in the lead-up to the forum, Dr Spio-Garbrah said the Dialogues will also focus on the question of reparations.

“Rather than negatively speak about reparations, we say, ‘No, how can we as a society begin to look at the past and how we move forward?’

“And this will help us have a fruitful relationship with Europe … If people have good jobs back home, why will they cross the Sahara Desert to go to Europe?

“So, this is a very important dialogue that we will be leading with a number of eminent persons,” Spio-Garbrah said.

AfCFTA/APD partnership

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat is a core partner in the annual Africa Prosperity Dialogues.

In a supporting statement on behalf of Wamkele Mene, secretary general of the AfCFTA, the chief of staff at the AfCFTA Secretariat, Silver Ojakol, described the Secretariat’s partnership with APN as strategic.

It will go a long way, Ojakol said, to influence the AfCFTA’s ability to deliver on the much-needed project of building the world’s largest single market in Africa.
