Oti Region: Surge in motor crashes on Eastern corridor worrying, says NRSA

In February, two separate fatal road accidents occurred on the Jasikan and Fankyineko roads killing a 17-year-old student of Okaja-Krome SHS Technical school

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in the Oti Region has raised concerns over the surge in motor crashes on the Eastern corridor road.

In February, two separate fatal road accidents occurred on the Jasikan and Fankyineko roads killing a 17-year-old student of Okaja-Krome SHS Technical school. The recent one involved a vehicle belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Police reports say all these road crashes occurred under clearly avoidable situations.

Joana Fafa Ayer, the director of the NRSA in an interview with Asaase News appealed to drivers to be more responsible by observing all road signs.

She called on the drivers to periodically maintain their vehicles to minimise mechanical faults and loss of lives.

Ayer said her office will intensify road safety education activities among drivers going forward, adding that some drivers are not obeying the traffic rules and regulations, especially on posted speed limits.

She is therefore appealing to all, including the security services and stakeholders, to come onboard to minimise these happenings in the Oti Region.
