The President, Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo-Addo has admonished Ghanaians to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols to help contain the pandemic as the yuletide approaches.
His advise is coming barely two days after the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research announced that about 34 persons have so far tested positive for the Omicron variant of the COVID-19.
Speaking at this year’s 37th National Farmers’ Day celebration in Cape Coast in the Central Region Akufo-Adoo said over five million persons have so far been vaccinated in the country.
“Despite having a relatively actively low case count as 727 persons infected with COVID-19 as at 28 November, we have vaccinated a total of 5,556,210, it is important that we bear in mind that the pandemic is far from over,” he said.
“Last Sunday the GHS announced several important additional measures aimed at ensuring that we continue to win the fight against the virus, I appeal to all of you to adhere to them,” he added.
The climax of the 37th National Farmers’ Day celebration took place in the ancient city of Cape Coast, the Central Regional capital.
It was hosted jointly by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
This year’s celebration is themed: “Planting for food and jobs: Consolidating food systems in Ghana”.
Overall, about 165 farmers and fishermen were also honoured.
