Akosua Manu condemns demolition of toilet facility in Adjiringanor, vows to pursue justice

Manu expressed her deep dismay over the destruction of the facility, which had been handed over to the community less than 24 hours prior

Akosua Manu, a former Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority and recent parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Adenta Constituency, has condemned the demolition of a newly commissioned four-seater toilet facility in Adjiringanor, describing the act as a blow to community development and public health.

In a statement she released, Manu expressed her deep dismay over the destruction of the facility, which had been handed over to the community less than 24 hours prior.

According to Manu, the demolition was carried out by individuals claiming to represent the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), a state-owned electricity distribution company.

“I’m deeply dismayed and saddened by the sudden demolition of the newly commissioned four-seater toilet facility in Adjiringanor by individuals claiming to be officials of GRIDCo,” she said in the statement. “This facility was constructed in direct response to the urgent sanitation needs of residents who, for years, have lived without access to a decent and hygienic place of convenience.”

The facility, which had been greeted with excitement by the residents, was part of Manu’s broader efforts to address the pressing sanitation issues in the Adenta constituency. For years, residents of the area have struggled with inadequate sanitation infrastructure, a situation that Manu sought to alleviate with the provision of the new facility.

“The excitement and relief that greeted its commissioning yesterday have now been cruelly truncated, leaving the community in shock,” she added. “This is not just an attack on infrastructure; it is an attack on community development, public health, and the dignity of the people.”

In her statement, Manu emphasised the need for accountability and justice, condemning what she described as an act of impunity.

She vowed to pursue all necessary legal and administrative channels to ensure that the facility is restored and that those responsible for the demolition are held accountable.

“We must not allow impunity to take root where efforts to alleviate suffering are concerned,” Manu asserted. “I remain resolute in delivering people-centred solutions to the people of Adentan and beyond and will not be deterred by intimidation, sabotage, or acts of bad faith.”

Manu called on residents of Adjiringanor and the wider Adenta constituency to remain calm as she works with relevant authorities to address the situation. She also expressed her commitment to continuing her advocacy for improved public health and sanitation in the region.

“I urge residents to remain calm as we pursue the appropriate channels to ensure justice is served and the facility is restored,” she concluded.

The demolition has sparked widespread outrage in the community, with many questioning the motivations behind the destruction of a much-needed facility that was seen as a vital step toward improving sanitation and quality of life in the area.
