Ahmed Suale murder case: Court orders police to file bill of indictment

Ahmed Suale

A Ghanaian court has directed the Ghana Police Service to file a bill of indictment in the ongoing trial over the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

This latest development marks a significant step in the case, which has drawn both local and international attention due to the journalist’s involvement in high-profile corruption exposés.

According to the court’s directive, the bill of indictment and accompanying summary of evidence must be submitted to facilitate the committal proceedings. The move is aimed at formally outlining the charges and preparing the case for trial at a higher court.

The judge presiding over the case emphasized the need for expedited action to ensure justice is not delayed, urging the prosecution to meet the filing deadline. The police and state prosecutors are expected to comply with the order ahead of the next scheduled hearing.

Ahmed Suale was shot and killed in Madina in January 2019, shortly after his identity was made public during a televised broadcast. His murder sparked widespread condemnation and calls for accountability and press safety reforms.

Legal observers say the court’s order signals progress in a case that has long been mired in delays.
