Ahafo Ano South-West: Angry NDC youth destroy party assets over parliamentary results

The incident which occurred Sunday afternoon has left significant damage to the party’s assets located in the district capital Mankranso.

Some NDC youth in the Ahafo Ano South West constituency of the Ashanti Region have attacked and vandalized their party office, setting a television, chairs, and other party belongings ablaze.

The incident which occurred Sunday afternoon has left significant damage to the party’s assets located in the district capital Mankranso.

The irate youth claim their actions stem from frustrations over the parliamentary election results. They contend that their parliamentary candidate Sedik Abubakar rightfully won the election, accusing the party’s national, regional, and constituency leadership of conceding the seat to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah.

The group have threatened to harm any national, regional, or constituency officers who visit the area. They have also warned their constituency executives not to return, threatening to set them on fire if they do.

It is not clear whether the party’s regional secretariat has been notified of the development.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on 21 December 2024, declared the NPP’s Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah as the winner of the Ahafo Ano South West parliamentary polls.

The recount validated Dapaah’s victory with a total of 16,680 votes.

His nearest rival, Sedik Abubakar from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), garnered 16,540 votes, resulting in one of the most closely contested elections in the history of the constituency.

The collation process at the Greater Accra Electoral Commission Office involved nine constituencies that experienced disruptions following chaotic incidents during the 7 December elections.
