A circuit court in Accra has sentenced the former traditional priestess-turned-evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to 15 years in prison for defrauding followers through false spiritual claims.
She was found guilty of using a televised broadcast in 2022 to promote a money-doubling scheme, which led members of the public to hand over large sums of cash in the hope of supernatural returns.
A court-ordered pregnancy test confirmed that Agradaa was not expecting a child, allowing sentencing to proceed.
The former fetish priestess was arrested on 9 October 2022 in connection with accusations of running a money-doubling scam. The claims levelled against her by members of the public.
She pleaded not guilty as she made her first court appearance that month on charges of fraudulent advertisement and six counts of defrauding by false pretence.
