African leaders arrive in Ghana ahead of ECOWAS at 50 celebration
The golden jubilee celebration of ECOWAS marks five decades of regional cooperation, economic partnership, and political dialogue among West African nations

Leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have begun arriving in Accra ahead of the much-anticipated launch of ECOWAS at 50, scheduled for Tuesday (22 April 2025).
Ghana, as host nation, is once again showcasing its readiness and commitment to regional integration and diplomacy.
Earlier today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, extended a warm welcome to His Excellency Muhammed B. S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of Gambia, as part of the official reception of high-level dignitaries.
The golden jubilee celebration of ECOWAS marks five decades of regional cooperation, economic partnership, and political dialogue among West African nations.
This milestone event is expected to attract several heads of state, diplomats, and stakeholders from across the subregion.
The presence of regional leaders signals strong support for ECOWAS’s vision of unity and progress.
As the summit unfolds, key discussions are expected to centre on strengthening democratic governance, boosting intra-regional trade, and promoting peace and security in West Africa.
Government has reaffirmed its commitment to making the anniversary celebrations a symbol of pride for the region. The launch promises not only to reflect on the past achievements of the bloc but also to set the tone for its future direction.
