African Football is beautiful but there are things to learn, says Black Queens coach Björkegren

Kim made the comments after Ghana beat Senegal one nil in the Swedish's first game in charge on Saturday (05 March) in the first of the two-legged friendlies in Dakar.

The Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren has expressed a positive view on African football, appreciating its beauty and the skill of the players, despite acknowledging some tactical imperfections.

Kim made the comments after Ghana beat Senegal one nil in the Swedish’s first game in charge on Saturday (05 March) in the first of the two-legged friendlies in Dakar.

He noted that African players excel in ball control and movement, which he feels is superior to Swedish footballers.

However, he suggests that European teams might have an edge in tactical play compared to African teams.

To be a part of African football is something that I’m really enjoying- and the football here is beautiful. I love it.”-he said.

“Maybe sometimes tactical, not perfect, but it’s beautiful. So many good players there are good on the ball, the movement.”

“I’m from Sweden, we come to 50% of the things that many players here can do. But if I compare, for example, with some European teams, they are maybe a little bit better tactical, I will say so with the ball, maybe a little bit better but tactically there are things to learn”.

The Black Queens are set to face off against Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses for the second time in a friendly on Tuesday, (8 April) as part of their nine-day training tour in Senegal, aimed at preparing the team for the upcoming Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
