Bono: PURC solves 1,552 complaints against NEDCo and GWCL

The nature of the cases includes unlawful disconnection, billing, quality of service, damaged property, payments, and metering, among others

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) resolved at least 1,552 complaints out of 1,565 against the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) from the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.

The nature of the cases includes unlawful disconnection, billing, quality of service, damaged property, payments, and metering, among others.

The Bono regional manager of the PURC, Patrick Antwi made this known at the end-of-year dinner organised by the regulatory body in Sunyani.

Antwi, who also oversees the Bono East and the Ahafo regions, said 1,149 of the complaints were against NEDCo followed by GWCL with 181 cases. He said that every year the complaints lodged in the PURC office increase with the quality of service leading that chart.

On recoveries, Antwi said GHC10,733,499.54 was recovered for the utilities while GHC85,478.75 was retrieved for consumers from January to December this year.

He called on the public not to hesitate to reach out to the PURC when they have issues with the utility providers, hoping that 2024 will be a year of strategic impact to consolidate gains made this year.

Citations were given to deserving utility providers and some consumers for their performance.

The event, which was attended by officials of PURC, NEDCo, GWCL, media personalities and some utility consumers, was to take stock of the year’s activities with the view of improving service delivery and enhancing the relationship between consumers and service providers.
