In a significant step towards deepening economic ties between Africa and Canada, the Africa Prosperity Network (APN) and the Canada-Africa Chamber of Business have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the prestigious Africa CEO Forum held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The MoU, formalised during a reception at the Canadian Embassy in Abidjan, underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to foster meaningful trade, investment, and collaborative opportunities between the two regions. It represents a major milestone in advancing the economic integration agenda on the African continent while promoting strong bilateral relations with Canada.
The signing ceremony featured Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Founder and Chairperson of the Africa Prosperity Network, and Paula Caldwell St-Onge, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Canada-Africa Chamber of Business. The event was graced by H.E. Anderson Blanc, Canada’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, who reaffirmed Canada’s support for expanding economic engagement across Africa.
“This partnership is a bold step towards creating platforms that will enhance trade facilitation, connect African and Canadian businesses, and help unlock the enormous potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” said Gabby Otchere-Darko following the signing.
A Gateway for Canada-Africa Economic Engagement
The Africa Prosperity Network has played a central role in convening thought leaders and private sector stakeholders to accelerate Africa’s economic transformation. Through this MoU, the APN and the Canada-Africa Chamber aim to:
-
Promote business-to-business linkages.
-
Facilitate investment missions and trade forums.
-
Support policy advocacy to remove barriers to intra-Africa and Africa-Canada trade.
Chairperson Paula Caldwell St-Onge echoed these objectives, emphasising the importance of practical engagement. “This is not just about dialogue — it’s about results. Our collaboration will focus on forging connections that translate into real business opportunities for companies across Canada and Africa,” she said.
Timely Agreement Amid Global Trade Shifts
The agreement comes at a time when both Africa and Canada are looking to diversify trade partnerships and develop resilient supply chains. With Africa on the cusp of transformative economic integration through AfCFTA — which aims to create a single continental market of 1.4 billion people — Canada is positioning itself as a strategic partner in Africa’s growth story.
The Canada-Africa Chamber of Business, a leading platform for promoting trade and investment, has long championed such engagements. Its collaboration with APN opens new doors for Canadian firms to engage with African markets, while supporting African enterprises to scale globally.
Shared Vision for Prosperity
The MoU builds on APN’s work in promoting African prosperity through intra-continental collaboration and Pan-African dialogues. The Network has hosted major convenings that explore ways to leverage Africa’s human and resource capital for sustainable development.
“The vision we share with the Canada-Africa Chamber aligns perfectly with APN’s mission — to harness Africa’s unity and strength through meaningful partnerships,” Otchere-Darko added.
The MoU is expected to translate into upcoming joint initiatives, including forums, investor roundtables, and sector-specific dialogues focused on infrastructure, green energy, digital innovation, and agribusiness — all key pillars for sustainable development on the continent.
