Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the member of parliament for Effutu, has donated GHC 100,000 to the Winneba Municipality Health Directorate to aid in the fight against a recent cholera outbreak.

Former Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Kassim Zubeiru, along with NPP leaders and local chiefs, presented the donation on behalf of the MP.

During the event, Alhaji Zubeiru reaffirmed Afenyo-Markin’s commitment to eliminating cholera in Effutu, despite his absence from the constituency at the time.

“This morning, we are here with some party executives, chiefs, and people of Atekyedo to make a donation of GHC 100,000 to support the fight against cholera.

“The MP is ever ready to support in the fight against the disease although he is not in the constituency now,” he said.

Along with the financial assistance, Alhaji Zubeiru encouraged residents, especially those in coastal areas, to improve sanitation practices and refrain from open defecation, a key factor contributing to the outbreak.

“We must maintain sanitation cleanliness and avoid open defecation. The MP has built many toilets in these communities, and I urge residents to use the facilities. This, to a larger extent will help reduce the spread of the disease,” he stated.

He also reassured the public of Afenyo-Markin’s deep concern about the outbreak, emphasizing his active collaboration with authorities to contain the situation.

Meanwhile, officials from the Winneba Health Directorate expressed their gratitude for the donation, stating that the funds would be used to enhance public education and support the treatment of the disease.
