MMDCEs to undergo orientation Tuesday

The programme is expected to increase participants’ awareness of Ghana’s governance framework and the job requirements of the Chief Executive

At least some 260 newly appointed Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives(MMDCEs) are to undergo training and orientation from Tuesday , the Local Government Ministry has said

The training and orientation, themed; “Building Successful Leadership for Local Economic Transformation and Improved Service Delivery: The MMDCEs in Contemporary Ghana,” will also induct 138 first time MMDCEs who will be educated on legal and institutional structures for effective leadership.

The programme is expected to increase participants’ awareness of Ghana’s governance framework and the job requirements of the Chief Executive.

They will be schooled on their work as Chief Executives and will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for effective leadership.

Participants will have the opportunity to network and share ideas for personal and professional support as well as appreciate the diffused environment of local governance, the challenges they might encounter, and their prospects for the job.

The training will also create an interactive environment for the MMDCESs with national-level actors and share information on government priority projects and programmes.

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies provide political and administrative leadership at the local level with the Chief Executives representing the Central Government at the local level in championing these policies.

The opening programme will be chaired by Nana Otuo Siriboe 11, Chairman of the Council of with the keynote address delivered by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and hosted by Mr. Daniel Botwe (MP), the sector Minister.

It would be recalled that  Daniel Botwe, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development on 19th September announced on behalf of President Akufo-Addo, the nomination of 260 MMDCEs which was followed by a voting process by members of the District Assemblies across the country to confirm the appointments.
