AFCON 2021: Andre Ayew backs debutants to succeed

Seventeen players from Ghana's final 28-man squad will be making their debut appearances at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and skipper Andre Ayew is backing all of them to make a huge impact

Ghana skipper Andre Ayew believes the new players in the Ghana squad who will be making their debut at this year’s Nations Cup deserve to be in the team.

Addressing the press ahead of Ghana’s opening group game against Morocco, the 33-year-old reiterated his support for them and believes they will play a key role if Ghana is to win the tournament.

“These guys have the opportunity to prove themselves to the world and we are there to help them, we try to let them understand what an AFCON means,” he said.

“I believe in them because they have what it takes to be here so I know they will make it and we are here to guide them.”

Kamaldeen Sulemana (Stade Rennes), Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (Dreams FC), Khalid Abdul Mumin (Vitoria de Guimaraes, Portugal) are the youngsters in the Ghana squad for the tournament.

The Black Stars will kick start the tournament against giants Morocco on Monday, January 10 before taking on Gabon and Comoros in the other Group C matches.

Ghana has been in Doha for the past two weeks preparing for the tournament which kicks off on January 9.
