Act against unsanitary exposure of corpses – Group to Ghana Police
The group’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, James Aaporekuu, said recent viral videos showing unsanitary displays of corpses were deeply troubling and violated both ethical norms and national laws

A youth advocacy group, the African Young Leaders Foundation (AYLF), has condemned what it describes as the mishandling and public exposure of dead bodies at funeral events in Ghana, warning that the practice poses serious public health risks.
The group’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, James Aaporekuu, said recent viral videos showing unsanitary displays of corpses were deeply troubling and violated both ethical norms and national laws.
“Such negligence not only breaches the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) under section 50, which mandates the safe handling and disposal of human remains but also constitutes a criminal offence under section 285 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29),” Aaporekuu told Asaase News.
He warned that exposing dead bodies to the public in unhygienic conditions was “a ticking time bomb for disease transmission.”
In a statement, the African Young Leaders Foundation urged the government and the Ghana Police Service to take swift action against individuals responsible for such practices.
The group is also calling for a full investigation into the most recent incident circulating on social media, insisting that those found culpable must be prosecuted.
In addition, the foundation called on authorities to intensify public education on the proper handling of human remains, citing the need to uphold both public health standards and respect for human dignity.
