Two men are standing trial at the Dansoman Circuit Court in Accra over allegations of conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Samuel Ademade, a 35-year-old trader, and King Sewornu, 32, a native doctor, were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority.
They appeared before Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit.
Prosecutors told the court that on 23 June 2025, police received intelligence that the two men were attempting to sell a locally manufactured pistol near the Cumberland Hotel at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Adabraka.
A team from the Special Support Unit at the Police Headquarters in Accra mounted surveillance on the suspects.
Two days later, on 25 June, officers arrested Ademade in Adabraka. A search reportedly uncovered a locally made pistol and two BB live cartridges in his possession.
During police interrogation, Ademade allegedly admitted to holding the weapon but claimed it had been given to him by Sewornu to sell. Sewornu was subsequently arrested at a nearby lodge, though he denied owning the weapon.
However, further investigations led by Detective Corporal Caleb Boakye Asamoah suggested that Sewornu was the original owner and had allegedly asked Ademade to find a buyer.
Ademade initially pleaded guilty with an explanation during his first court appearance on 2 July but changed his plea to not guilty on 10 July. Sewornu has maintained a not guilty plea throughout.
Both men have been granted bail of GH¢20,000 each, with three sureties. Two of the sureties must be public servants earning at least GH¢2,000 per month, while the third must be justified.
They are also required to submit their Ghana Cards to the court registry and report to the police every two weeks.
The prosecution has been directed to file all disclosures and witness statements by 27 July.
