Absence of Chinese interpreter forces adjournment of Aisha Huang’s case

The case was adjourned because the Chinese interpreter, who is assisting the court in its interaction with the accused person, was absent

The Criminal high court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo has adjourned the case involving Aisha Huang, the Chinese national charged with the offence of engaging in illegal mining and immigration offences, to 2 November 2022.

The case was adjourned because the Chinese interpreter, who is assisting the court in its interaction with the accused person, was absent.

Additionally, the court adjourned the sitting because the state represented by the Deputy attorney general, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, said that clerks from the AG’s office were at the registry of the court completing the filing processes of all documents they intend to rely on to prosecute their case.

Aisha Huang’s lawyer, Captain (rtd) Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey, failed in an attempt to secure bail once again for his client.

Justice Lydia Osei Marfo’s court signaled that it will have none of that because the conditions for the denial of bail has not changed.

The accused person will therefore remain in prison custody until the next court sitting on 2 November 2022.

The court charged the AG’s department to ensure that the filing processes are completed so that the parties can have the case management conference (CMC) at the next sitting.
