Abronye DC: I will face NIB, but their actions show selective justice

Kwame Baffoe, aka Abronye DC/New Patriotic Party (NPP)/Bono Region chairman

Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has reacted to his invitation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), questioning the basis of the summons and alleging selective investigations by the agency.

According to the NIB, Abronye is required to provide evidence supporting his claims that President Mahama is withholding GH₵550 million intended for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House.

He allegedly made these claims during an appearance on Accra-based Movement Television, where he also accused the government of corruption in the recruitment and revocation processes.

The outspoken politician who serves as the New Patriotic Party Chairman in the Bono Region however says he does not see any criminal element in the matter for which he has been invited, stressing that he is ready to cooperate with the investigation.

“There was money intended for employees whose appointment letters have been terminated, and no government will recruit for that budgeting. So, I’ll go and face them. I haven’t seen the criminal element of that. They said I should come and assist in investigations, so let’s go and take it from there,” he told ChannelOne TV

Baffoe also hinted at a possible attempt to stifle free speech, suggesting that the invitation might be part of efforts to reintroduce a “culture of silence” in the country.

“After that, we can read meaning into their invitation—whether they are trying to reintroduce the culture of silence that everybody spoke against some time ago. I don’t see the criminal element of this issue for the NIB to invite me, when current government appointees have made wild allegations and the director of NIB hasn’t invited any of them,” he argued.

He further criticized the NIB for what he described as selective investigations, stating that serious allegations made by government officials, including claims about gold hoarding and financial mismanagement, have not been probed.

“There have been wild and serious allegations—that Akyem mafia is hoarding gold outside, that the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has been involved in financial mismanagement. A lot of things. But the director of national investigations has not invited any of them,” he claimed.

Baffoe maintained that he would honor the invitation but vowed to challenge what he sees as unfair targeting. “We will go and prove to them that they are doing selectivity in their work,” he concluded.

His invitation by the NIB has sparked mixed reactions, with some political observers calling for transparency in the investigation process.
