The Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has defended his track record in exposing financial mismanagement, asserting that his efforts have saved Ghana millions of dollars.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday (31 January) Ablakwa emphasized the critical role of vigilance in protecting public resources.
“My exposés about wrongdoings have saved this country millions of dollars. If we do not remain alert and call out financial irregularities, Ghana will continue to lose vital resources that could be used for development,” he stated.
He highlighted past instances where his investigative efforts led to the cancellation of questionable contracts and prevented wasteful government spending.
Dismissing suggestions that his actions were politically motivated, Ablakwa stressed that his work has always been in the interest of the Ghanaian people.
“I do not engage in these exposés for personal gain or political advantage. My focus is on ensuring that the hard-earned resources of this country are used prudently and not squandered through shady deals,” he remarked.
He further assured the committee that, if approved as Foreign Affairs Minister, he would uphold transparency and accountability within Ghana’s diplomatic missions.
“I will continue to stand for integrity and accountability. Ghana’s foreign service must reflect these values, ensuring that we serve our people and protect the country’s image internationally,” he stated.
