Abeiku Jackson wins bronze in men’s 100m butterfly at African Games

Jackson picks up his second and Ghana's fifth medal at the ongoing Games

Ghanaian swimming sensation Abeiku Jackson continued his impressive run at the 13th African Games, securing a bronze medal in the men’s 100m butterfly finals held on Tuesday (12 March) at the Aquatics Centre, Borteyman Sports Complex .

This podium finish marks Jackson’s second medal at the games and Ghana’s fifth overall. He had previously secured a silver medal in the Men’s 50m Butterfly.

Living up to expectations, Jackson dominated Heat 3 of the 100m Butterfly on Monday (11 March), clocking a time of 54.17 seconds to secure a spot in the Finals. This impressive performance edged out Egypt’s Atia Abd El Rahman by a significant 0.93 seconds.

However, in the Finals, despite improving his time to 53.80 seconds, Jackson fell short of the gold and silver medals. South Africa’s Jarden Eaton, a member of the country’s gold-winning 4x100m Medley Mixed Relay team, clinched silver with a time of 53.45 seconds.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Nasr Abdalla, who already had two gold medals (Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay and Men’s 200m Butterfly), secured the top honour with a time of 53.29 seconds, beating Jackson by just over half a second (0.51 seconds).

Jackson has one final chance to add to his medal haul—the Men’s 100m Backstroke, which begins Tuesday (12 March) at the Borteyman Sports Complex Aquatics Centre.

All eyes will be on the Ghanaian star as he looks to close out a successful African Games campaign.
