Abeiku Jackson shatters national records at BRICS Games
The 24-year-old secured two bronze medals and broke two national records at the concluded 6th BRICS Games held in Kazan, Russia

Abeiku Jackson, Ghana’s swimming sensation, has further cemented his legacy as one of the nation’s greatest aquatic athletes.
The 24-year-old secured two bronze medals and broke two national records at the concluded 6th BRICS Games held in Kazan, Russia (12–23 June 2024).
Jackson, renowned for his prowess in butterfly and freestyle events, dominated the pool, rewriting the record books in both the men’s 50m and 100m butterfly.
First, he tackled the 100m butterfly, clocking an impressive 53.08 seconds in the final. This feat shattered his previous national record of 53.39 seconds set at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, shaving off a significant 0.31 seconds.
Jackson’s dominance continued in the 50m butterfly. He narrowly missed out on gold in the heats, finishing second with a time of 24.11 seconds, just behind Belarus’ Grigori Pekarski (23.61 seconds).
This swim was not enough to break his own national record, previously set at the 7th Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championships (24.03 seconds).
The finals saw another close battle, with Jackson again facing Pekarski. While the Ghanaian secured a well-deserved bronze (23.87 seconds), Pekarski (23.43 seconds) and his compatriot Arseni Barzhakou (23.72 seconds) clinched the gold and silver medals, respectively.
Nevertheless, Jackson’s performance in the final was historic, rewriting the national record once more by a remarkable 0.92 seconds.
Despite falling short of gold, Jackson’s double-bronze medal haul and record-breaking swims at the BRICS Games solidify his position as a dominant force in African swimming.
This young talent, far from reaching his peak, continues to inspire a generation of Ghanaian swimmers and demonstrates his unwavering dedication to the sport.
