A cybersecurity breach has triggered concern among MTN Ghana customers, with the telecom provider confirming that the data of about 5,700 users may have been compromised.
The incident, though still under investigation, has not affected the functionality of MTN’s systems, which remain operational and secure.
The breach, reported in a media release on Monday (28 April, 2025) has prompted MTN to initiate direct contact with affected individuals while urging all customers to heighten their digital vigilance.
Users are being advised to take basic cyber precautions, including updating their devices and applications, enabling multifactor authentication, avoiding suspicious links, and setting up fraud alerts on their credit reports.
MTN, a subsidiary of MTN Group, stressed that customer privacy remains a top priority. “We are actively working with cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic investigation,” the company said in a statement.
“We understand the concerns of our stakeholders and are committed to being transparent throughout this process.”
Despite the potential data exposure, the telecom giant assured the public that its core systems remain uncompromised and that measures are in place to safeguard its digital infrastructure.
MTN has pledged to dedicate all necessary resources to contain and resolve the breach, promising continuous updates as investigations progress. Customers with concerns are encouraged to reach out via the company’s toll-free number, 100.
