37 sacks of suspected cannabis recovered after Navy chase near Ada

The Ghana Navy has intercepted a canoe carrying 37 sacks of suspected cannabis near Ada, in what authorities say is part of intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking along the country’s coastline.

The seizure took place on Friday at Goi, near Ada, following what the Navy described as “credible intelligence,” according to an official statement.

Personnel from the Navy’s Special Boat Squadron tracked and pursued the vessel before intercepting it as it attempted to land onshore. The individuals on board fled upon sighting the operatives, abandoning the canoe.

“A subsequent search revealed 37 sacks of compressed substances believed to be narcotics,” the statement said.

Preliminary checks by the Narcotics Control Commission indicated that each sack contained about 70 parcels, suggesting a significant quantity of the suspected drugs.

Other items retrieved from the vessel included two gallons of premix fuel, five empty gallons and an outboard motor.

The Navy said the canoe and all seized items have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Commission for further investigation.

“The Ghana Navy… reassures the public that it remains fully committed to safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity and interests,” the statement added.
