Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially thrown his hat in the ring for the National Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement released on Wednesday, 4 February, 2026, Wontumi said his decision comes after reflecting on the challenges faced by the party and consulting widely with party elders, youth, and “my maker.”
“I do so not for personal ambition but to strengthen, rebuild, and unify our great party,” he said, describing himself as “grassroots personified” and pledging to put the party’s interest above all else.
He added that leadership at this critical moment will require “vision, courage, and unwavering determination” and the willingness to make tough decisions “for the NPP.”
“We are ready. We are organised. We are built for the battle ahead. Together, we will restore confidence, empower our grassroots, and position the NPP to win decisively in 2028,” Wontumi said.
Known for his strong base in the Ashanti Region, Wontumi has built a reputation as a fiery and influential party leader who connects directly with grassroots supporters. Over the years, he has been a key player in NPP politics, often dominating regional campaigns and shaping party debates.
His bid for the national chairmanship marks the next step in his political journey, testing whether his influence can extend beyond the Ashanti Region and unite the party nationally as it prepares for the 2028 elections.
