Election 2024: CODEO to deploy 4,000 observers nationwide, says Kojo Asante

The CODEO recruits will be deployed as rapid response observers (RROs) to a representative sample of polling stations spanning the 276 constituencies across all 16 regions of Ghana

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has announced plans to deploy 4,000 observers across the country for the 7 December general election.

CODEO is a member of the Global Network of Domestic Election Monitors (GNDEM) and thus subscribes to the Declaration of Global Principles for Non-Partisan Election Observation and Monitoring by Citizen Organisations.

Its recruits will be deployed as rapid response observers (RROs) to a representative sample of polling stations spanning the 276 constituencies across all 16 regions of Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the CODEO Secretariat on the Asaase Breakfast Show during the launch on Wednesday (31 July 2024) of Asaase’s Election Nerve Centre – the station’s official season covering the general election – Kojo Pumpuni Asante, director of programmes and policy engagement at CODEO, announced that other initiatives will be rolled out to counter disinformation and misinformation.

“Come election time, we will deploy up to 4,000 observers across the country and as we have done in previous elections since 2008, we will deploy parallel vote tabulation that will allow us to independently verify the presidential results as well,” Dr Asante said.

“We have other complementary interventions around disinformation and misinformation with other civil society organisations, because we think that is also going to be a big challenge,” Asante said.
