Mahama reiterates call for a national dialogue on economy

The former president said the national dialogue is critical as Ghana prepares for debt restructuring and negotiation for an IMF programme

The former president John Dramani Mahama has reiterated calls for a national dialogue on the Ghanaian economy following the latest downgrade by Standards and Poor.

Standards and Poor last week downgraded Ghana’s foreign and local currency from ‘B-/B’ To ‘CCC+/C’ with a negative outlook.

The credit rating agency said the downgrade is due to intensifying financing and external pressures on the Ghanaian economy.

In a Facebook post, the former president said the national dialogue is critical as the country prepares for debt restructuring and negotiation for an IMF programme.

“There appears to be no end to the problems with the Ghanaian economy, with the recent downgrade to CCC+/C Junk status.”

“A national dialogue on the economy, bringing some of our best brains together will serve us well, even as we prepare for debt restructuring and negotiation of an IMF programme,” Mahama said.
