Nearly naked John Cena presents Oscar for best costume design

The actor and wrestler walked on stage Sunday night with just a strategically placed award envelope to cover his lower half, drawing both laughter and applause from the audience

John Cena appeared nearly naked to present the Academy Award for best costume design, poking fun at the 50th anniversary of a man streaking at the 46th Academy Awards.

The actor and wrestler walked on stage Sunday night with just a strategically placed award envelope to cover his lower half, drawing both laughter and applause from the audience.

“Costumes – they are so important,” Cena said. “Maybe the most important thing there is.”

He then realized he couldn’t open the envelope without showing more than he wanted, and Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel decided to help him out.

As the nominees were announced, Cena underwent a quick costume change into what appeared to be a toga-like outfit made out of a curtain.

He then announced the Oscar winner: Holly Waddington for the movie “Poor Things.” It was her first nomination and first win.

“Poor Things” stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, a childlike woman in Victorian London who comes to life through a brain transplant and begins a journey of self-discovery.

In addition to best costume design, it won three other awards, including best actress for Stone, according to The Associated Press.

In her acceptance speech, Waddington thanked her fellow nominees for inspiring her to become a costume designer, as well as the cast of “Poor Things” – especially Stone – for going with whatever she threw at them.
