The Electoral Commission says it is ready to supervise the presidential and parliamentary primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday (13 May).
The primaries have been fraught with court actions over infractions relating to the party’s voter register, the first brought by Dr Kwabena Duffuor, who is standing for the nomination as NDC flagbearer in Election 2024, and the second by Edgar Asamoah Boateng, a prospective parliamentary candidate in Abuakwa North, a constituency in the Eastern Region.
A statement issued by the Electoral Commission on Friday said the road is now clear for the election agency to supervise the NDC primaries after both candidates withdrew their court cases.
“… the way is now clear for the Electoral Commission to supervise the conduct of the NDC primaries slated for Saturday 13 May 2023,” the EC said.
“The Commission has this afternoon held meetings with the leaders of the NDC to finalise modalities for the conduct of the elections,” the statement added.
