Freddie Blay, the immediate past national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said he left a legacy of continuity, unity and hard work in the party.
He said his tenure as the chairman of the governing NPP has seen peace and unity in the party.
Speaking at the just-ended national delegates’ conference of the NPP, Blay said, “I’ve done what I could. With all my team members, we put in efforts, and I believe the delegates and the membership know what we’ve been able to go through.”
“There’ve been peace and unity. And we want to build even a stronger party … I am a proud member. I will leave tonight (16 July) believing that what we’ve left is a legacy of continuity, unity, hard work and the legacy of working together.
He added, “I think that is stronger than any other legacy you can talk of …This is only eight years that I’ve served my party [as national chairman] and I feel privileged …”
Meanwhile, in his speech to party supporters, Stephen Ntim, the newly elected national chairman of the NPP said the new national executives will work assiduously for the party to win Election 2024.
He was grateful to the party’s supporters for electing him to lead them.
Ntim was finally elected national chairman of the NPP on his fifth consecutive attempt at running for the position. He won 4,014 votes (or 72.76% of the total vote) while his main contender, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, garnered 1,010 votes (18.31%).
George Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah had 294 votes (5.33%), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi had 101 votes (1.83%) and Gifty Asantewaa Ayeh (aka Daavi Ama) had 44 (0.80%). Sammy Crabbe received 32 votes (0.58%) and Akwasi Osei-Adjei won 20 (0.36%).
