VIDEOS: Multiple cars damaged by trees after Monday’s heavy rain

The rains which lasted for about an hour led to heavy traffic in the capital leaving workers, traders, students, and motorists stranded

At least nine cars were damaged by trees following heavy rains in Accra on Monday(6 May), the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.

The rains which lasted for about an hour led to heavy traffic in the capital leaving workers, traders, students, and motorists stranded.

Assistant Divisional Officer Grade One (ADO1) Alex Nartey, from the GNFS public relations department, confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far.

“So far, no, not that we’ve received so we are doing our best and we are hoping that truly no one is really trapped under any of the cars.”

Crews are currently working to remove fallen trees from vehicles at the airport. Nartey highlighted the proactive approach taken by the GNFS.

“We are doing our best to try and help with the situation,” said Nartey.

“There was another incident at 37 around the Italian embassy where our men heroically helped with clearing the road and saving lives and some of the vehicles there so when we got the wind of this incident, no one even called us but our men had to move here based on our intelligence we picked up.”
