Six things you (probably) didn’t know about Bobrisky

Bobrisky is a famous Nigerian fashion model, internet personality, beauty therapist, entrepreneur and LGBTQ+ activist

Bobrisky, whose real name is Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju, is a Nigerian internet personality and cross-dresser who has gained widespread fame for his controversial antics and bold personality.

Born in 1992 in Lagos, Nigeria, Bobrisky first gained attention on social media for his extravagant lifestyle, which included posting photos of luxury cars, designer clothes, and expensive vacations.

Here are five facts you probably didn’t know about him:

Became famous for documenting transition on social media

It was his decision to publicly embrace his identity as a male-to-female transgender woman that truly catapulted him to fame.

Bobrisky began wearing makeup, wigs, and feminine clothing, and underwent cosmetic procedures to enhance his appearance. He quickly became known for his flamboyant style and unapologetic attitude, often posting provocative photos and videos that stirred up controversy.

Muslim background

The influencer grew up in a Muslim family and loved stereotypically feminine activities like cooking, cleaning, etc. His parents would punish him for cross-dressing. He began to fend for himself at age 16 because heis dad could not meet the financial needs of their large family.

Owns a skin bleaching business

Bobrisky’s most prolific business venture is selling skin-lightening creams. He also sells make-up, human hair weaves, watches, trendy attires, and more. Additionally, the star makes money as a beauty therapist and social media influencer.

He was inspired to join Snapchat in early 2016 to sell his skin-bleaching products and other merchandise.

The business made him an internet sensation in Nigeria between October and November 2016. In 2017, he made his Nollywood debut in the Ojuloge Obirin film. Bobrisky later earned so much fame and money touring the US as a guest for multiple events, including club appearances and private one-on-one meet-ups.

Massive social media following

Despite facing criticism and backlash from conservative Nigerians, Bobrisky has continued to build a massive following on social media, with millions of followers on Instagram and YouTube.

He has also launched his own line of beauty products and merchandise, further solidifying his status as a social media sensation.

Philanthropic efforts

In addition to his online persona, Bobrisky has also been involved in various philanthropic efforts, including donating money to fans in need and supporting LGBTQ rights in Nigeria. He has become a powerful figure in the LGBTQ community, using his platform to advocate for acceptance and equality.

Impacted Nigerian pop culture

While Bobrisky remains a polarising figure in Nigerian society, there is no denying his impact on pop culture and social media. With his larger-than-life personality and fearless self-expression, he continues to push boundaries and challenge societal norms, inspiring others to embrace their true selves.
