Proving my critics wrong gives me so much pleasure, says Bawumia

Bawumia is noted for pioneering a myriad of innovations in Ghana's digital space which has earned him the accolade " Mr Digitalisation"

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPPhas said proving his critics wrong gives him so much pleasure.

Bawumia is noted for pioneering a myriad of innovations in Ghana’s digital space which has earned him the accolade ” Mr Digitalisation”.

He is credited with initiating landmark digital initiatives and policies including the introduction of mobile money interoperability, digital address system, E-Pharmacy, digitisation of the ports system and the passport office.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Africa Watch Magazine, Bawumia said his critics lack the foresight when it comes to churning out innovative ideas.

Silence my opponents

“The fact is that many of the things I try to do are things that have not been done in Ghana before. So when I propose them, my political opponents immediately say it is not possible.”

“This happened with the Ghana Card being used to travel from outside Ghana into the country. They said the same with the digital address system, E-Pharmacy, Zipline drones and hostels for Kayayei. But after ridiculing me, they become quiet when I get it done. Proving them wrong gives me so much pleasure,” Bawumia said.

Digital Vision

The 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in February outlined his vision for a “Digital Ghana” aimed at fostering inclusive economic growth and ensuring Ghana remains competitive in the global digital revolution.

Central to  Bawumia’s vision is the establishment of a “Digital Ghana,” which aims to apply technology to transform key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, and the financial sector.

This, he believeswill not only make Ghana a digital hub but also create job opportunities for the youth.
